Electronic medical records are pretty cool. The VA has them and the Army is working on it. It's the future of medicine. When I get a blood test or an x-ray or an MRI, the results are instantly available to the doctor on their computer screen.

But anyone who thinks that this will "save money" is a moron. I clearly remember the advent of the personal computer was supposed to usher in a "paperless society."

Your concerns about patient privacy are well-noted. While patient privacy is a concern even with paper records, the ease with which personal data can be stolen, disseminated, and misused is unthinkable. Computer security is going to be an issue for all systems, but Obama is clearly looking before he leaps and is underestimating the monstrous cost, both in preventive measures and corrective measures, to deal with security breaches.
